Poor Old Santa Claus

Poor old Santa Claus. Sometimes he gets a bad rap. People say he doesn’t represent Christmas well. People say he doesn’t set a good example for Christians celebrating December 25. And people say—gasp!—that he doesn’t even exist. Plus, there are some folks out there who are trying to confuse just who Santa is. Is he really Saint Nicolas? Or is he some imposter, some big elf from the North Pole who wants to take credit for everything that Saint Nick has done and stands for.

Scary stuff, right? Well, if you are getting too upset by these anti-Santa ideas, perhaps you should stop reading this article now. It only gets worse the deeper you get into these anti-Santa theories.

Are you still with us? Good, because to preserve our image of Santa Claus—our jolly old man—we need to know why people are out to get him. Then, and only then, can we stop them from trashing the good name of the man in the red suit.

First off, these anti-Santa folks admit that Santa has some really great qualities. He’s always cheerful and happy. He always has fun games and gifts to give, and he is always generous (unless you were naughty, of course). But here is where these anti-Santa people stop with the compliments. You see, they say that Santa, with all his goodness, is only for children and not for grownups.

Worse yet, they say that Santa is only around these days to make money for giant Eastern shopping syndicates. He’s only here to make other people a buck. All that stuff about Santa giving gifts, and spreading good cheer, is all made up, they say. The real purpose of the man with the white beard and the red cap is to get us to consume, to spend money, to give gifts just like Santa does.

This is horrible anti-Santa stuff, right? Well, believe it or not, it gets worse. These anti-Santa folks go on to say that Santa can’t be believed because he flies around the globe in a sleigh. Obviously, the anti-Santa folks have no faith in Rudolph. And speaking of faith, the anti-Santa folks also say that Santa takes away from the real purpose of Christmas, which is to celebrate Baby Jesus.

You see, these anti-Santa folks say the real Saint Nicolas is better than Santa. He was an actual person, they say, who believed and practiced goodwill to all men, women, and children. He was kind and generous, and was a devout believer in Baby Jesus. And Santa isn’t real, they say?

Had enough? Me too. Here’s how you can know that these anti-Santa folks are way off base. What these anti-Santa folks don’t understand is that Santa and Saint Nick are one and the same. So you can’t say that Saint Nick is better than Santa, or that Santa is copying Saint Nick’s style. Saint Nick is Santa! Together, as one, they represent all that is good about Christmas, and all that we should practice every day, not just December 25.

So, please, anti-Santa bashers, please leave the big man alone. He’s never done anything but bring holiday cheer, love for humankind, and tons of fun.

Some 80 Santas from around the globe meeting at their World Congress debated establishing a second Christmas in July to ease their December workload, but finally decided that the holiday would be feted only once a year, the Danish Santa host said.

“There was a proposal from the Japanese Santa Claus that was hotly debated, but the delegates, ghd saleeven if they were in favour of the idea, did not want to adopt it because it risks upsetting the children of the world,” Denmark’s Father Christmas told reporters.

“The Christmas date of December 24-25 will not be changed, even though we are about to collapse from overwork. The tradition must be respected,” he said.

Earlier, the spokeswoman for the convention had announced that the congress had decided to approve two Christmases, one on July 24-25 for the southern hemisphere and another one on December 24-25 for the northern hemisphere.

The 42nd annual convention was held this week at the world’s oldest theme park, Bakken, north of Copenhagen.

On Wednesday, the Santas and their little elf helpers handed out gifts to delighted children at Bakken, after holding a parade in the streets of Copenhagen Tuesday. The Santas have been meeting in Denmark every summer since 1963.

One noticeable absentee, ghd hair styles however, is the Finnish Santa, who has boycotted the event for years over his refusal to acknowledge that the one true Santa is the one from Greenland.

Some Ways To Make Children Believe That Santa Clause Exists

Part of the fun of Christmas is seeing the excitement of your children when they think that Santa Clause is going to come down chimneys and give all children wonderful gifts in the night. It is magic and kindness and it always makes children happy. It will be a sad time if some day children start to doubt that Santa exists or even no longer believe in Santa Clause and the magic of Christmas.

The Spirit of Christmas

If your older children start telling the younger that Santa doesn’t exist, talk to them. It might be that your older children have outgrown the belief in Santa, but you should explain to them the history behind Santa Clause. Talk to them about Saint Nicholas who existed once and was a kind man that gave at Christmas to those who were less fortunate. Explain to the children that Christmas is the season of giving, and remind them that Santa Clause always gives freely from his heart. Also do not let your younger children see or hear you talk about Santa Clause as though he doesn’t exist. Children learn from their parents and if you make it clear that you believe he exists, then they will believe in Santa Clause.

Together with your children set out cookies and milk for Santa Clause. Children enjoy putting out milk and cookies as well as making cookies with Mom or Dad. Making cookies for Santa Clause is half of the fun for children. Tell your children to leave out not only milk and cookies for Santa but also some carrots for the reindeers. This gives your children something fun to look forward to. You can even bake some cookies with your children to get them into the Christmas spirit.

Make sure there is at least one gift from Santa Clause. Also make sure you use a wrapping paper different from the other gifts. If you miss this, your children, even really young children, are likely to start believing that Santa Clause does not exist. Tell them that only nice children can get a toy from Santa Clause. So getting a gift from Santa Clause gives children something to look forward to in Christmas.

A Secret Phone Call from Santa Clause

On Christmas Eve, send the children to bed early. Tell them that Santa Clause can not come if they are still awake. If your children ask if Santa Clause is really going to come, go ahead and tell them yes. To make it more persuasive, you can make a secret call named  “a phone call from Santa Clause” to your children. Tell them that Santa Clause will call them at twelve o’clock before they go to bed. Then, when the clock strikes twelve, use your computer and some voice changing software to call them – of course don’t let your children know – and talk to them in the voice of Santa Clause from some movie about Santa Clause that your children ever watched. On the phone, tell them that they must be nice and go to bed early; also promise if they do so, they will see their gifts in the morning.

You can find some helpful voice changing software programs from the Internet or you can try a program I am using named Voice Changer Software Diamond (http://www.audio4fun.com/voice-over.htm). Use the program to change your voice and combine it with some VOIP program such as Google Talk (http://mp3-player.audio4fun.com/tutorials/voice-changer-tutorial28.htmAIM (http://mp3-player.audio4fun.com/tutorials/voice-changer-tutorial32.htm) or MSN (http://mp3-player.audio4fun.com/tutorials/voice-changer-tutorial27.htm) to make the phone call. Although they can not meet Santa Clause, the call and the gifts they receive will make them believe that Santa Clause really exists. So sometime, to children, believing does not require seeing.

There is no harm in letting your children believe in Santa. After all, Santa Clause is a representation of the spirit of giving away. Christmas is the season to give, so it is not a bad thing to let your children believe in Santa Clause.

Be Happy and Merry Christmas!
